Error description
In AIX 7.3, extendvg of a scalable volume group, that was converted from a big VG, fails with incorrect maxpps message. The sample error message will look like this: #extendvg testvg hdisk1 0516-1254 extendvg: Changing the PVID in the ODM. 0516-1714 extendvg: The total number of partitions on the disks for this volume group would be 9596, which exceeds the current maxpps value of 5080. Increase the maxpps value to 10160 using the chvg -P command, then retry. 0516-792 extendvg: Unable to extend volume group.
Local fix
Varyoffvg and varyonvg the volumegroup then doing the extendvg will work
Problem summary
chvg -G is not updating the kernel max pps values for the volume group. This can affect later operations, done before varyoff/varyon.. for example extendvg to a larger disk may fail with an error about not enough pps.
Problem conclusion
Add logic to chvg -G to update kernel max pps values
Temporary fix
