Error description

  • Error Message: The operating system's OOM killer terminates the
    JVM in a containerized environment.
    .
    Stack Trace:
    .

Local fix

  • Option 1. Revert to cgroups v1 on the worker node
Set the kernel parameter systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=0 to
force cgroups v1. This is a node-level change and may affect
    other workloads on the host.

Option 2. Cap the JVM heap explicitly
Set -Xmx to a value below the container memory limit so the JVM
does not exceed the containers memory budget.

Problem summary

  • The operating system's OOM killer terminates the JVM in a
    containerized environment.

Problem conclusion

  • The JVM has been updated to correctly detect the control groups
settings. This allows the JVM to correctly set the upper memory
limit and function within this limit. Further, this stops the
operating system's OOM killer from terminating the JVM in a
    containerized environment.
