IJ35563: JFS2 FILE SYSTEM CAN GET MARKED CORRUPT AFTER EXTENDING FS. APPLIES TO AIX 7100-05

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Right after a file system is extended it is possible that
    the same file system
could be marked corrupted and error message sent to the
error report to run fsck on it
This is due to a race condition on the setting of the new
    size of the
file system and has not been seen very often. So it is
    considered a
    rare occurrence

Local fix

Problem summary

  • An FS could be incorrectly marked corrupt soon after it was
extended. J2_DMAP_CORRUPT and J2_FSCK_REQUIRED entries would
be found in the errpt. They could be immediately preceeded by
    a J2_FS_FULL log.

Problem conclusion

  • Ignore hint value if it appears to be out of bounds, and
switch to the default allocation path.
