APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Due to the current approach used by the TEP client to construct
a valid URL based on relative document paths, if a networked
device in the environment is known to the DNS (or the TEP
client machine's local hosts file) using a domain name that
begins with "classes", the URL construction will fail to
    produce the correct fully-qualified URI.

Local fix

  • 1) If the network device associated with a domain name that
begins with classes is no longer in operation, the device
should be varied offline and the corresponding DNS entry should
    be removed.

    2) The network device associated with a domain
name that begins with classes can be renamed so that the
leading domain qualifier is assigned a value other than
    classes.

Problem summary

  • TEP Browser View generates failing URL's when document paths
    begin with "classes" qualifier.

Due to the approach used by the TEP client to construct a valid
URL based on relative document paths, if a networked device in
the environment is known to the DNS (or the TEP client machine's
local hosts file) using a domain name that begins with "classes"
qualifier, the URL construction algorithm associated with the
TEP Browser View will fail to produce the correct
fully-qualified URI. This typically results in an HTTP error,
and the expected document is not rendered.

Problem conclusion

  • The TEP Browser View implementation has been changed to check
for the existence of a leading "classes" qualifier in the
relative document path, and then properly handle the case where
a networked device with that name is known to the DNS.
