Problem summary
Java looping issue due to missing EOF in the compressed stream
Problem conclusion
A zlib issue incorrectly failed to generate an end-of-block marker when compressing raw streams (i.e. a compressed stream that does not have any wrappers like zip or gzip). The missing end-of-block marker caused the Java Inflater.finished() API to always return false. This behaviour may result in an endless looping symptom for code that loops until Inflater.finished() returns true. The private zlib library used by the JVM has been updated to correctly generate the end-of-block marker. This issue is only seen on IBM z15 running Linux, starting with Java 8.0.6.0. . This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 8 SR6 FP16 (8.0.6.16) . Contact your IBM Product's Service Team for these Service Refreshes and Fix Packs. For those running stand-alone, information about the available Service Refreshes and Fix Packs can be found at: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/
