IJ26285: DISABLED ITM SERVICE UNIT FILE CAN NOT BE USED INTERACTIVELY

APAR status

Error description

  • When kcirunas.cfg or *_kdyrunas.cfg is used to stop an agent
    from starting at boot time, the service unit that is generated
    by UpdateAutoRun.sh can not be used interactively to start and
    stop the service unit.
    
    RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS:
    These recreate
    steps are Linux (RedHat 7 and above, Suse 12 and above)
    specific.
    1) Install the OS agent from the 063000700 media.
    2)
    Configure the OS agent.
    3) Start the OS agent.
    4) Apply the
    6.3.0.7-TIV-ITM-SP0003
    5) Run UpdateAutoRun.sh
    6) Notice that
    the ExecStart and ExecStop attribute values in the service unit
    file are not commented out.
    # systemctl cat
    ITMAgents99.lz.service | grep
    ^ExecSt
    ExecStart=/opt/IBM/ITM/bin/itmcmd agent start
    lz
    ExecStop=/opt/IBM/ITM/bin/itmcmd agent stop lz
    
    7) Add the
    appropriate section in kcirunas.cfg to disable the agent
    starting at boot.

     <instance>
    
    <autoStart>no</autoStart>
     </instance>
    8) Run
    UpdateAutoRun.sh
    9) Reboot the Linux system with the command
    "shutdown -r"
    10) Notice that the OS agent did not start.
    
    11)
    Enable the service unit file
    # systemctl enable
    ITMAgents99.lz.service
    
    12) Notice that the ExecStart and
    ExecStop attribute values in the service unit file are
    commented out now.
    # systemctl cat ITMAgents99.lz.service |
    grep ^ExecSt
    ExecStart=#/opt/IBM/ITM/bin/itmcmd agent start
    lz
    ExecStop=#/opt/IBM/ITM/bin/itmcmd agent stop lz
    
    13) ERROR:
    Notice that even though the service unit file has been enabled,
    you can not start or stop the service unit file.
    # systemctl
    start ITMAgents1.lz.service
    Failed to start
    ITMAgents1.lz.service: Unit ITMAgents1.lz.service has a bad
    unit file setting.
    See system logs and 'systemctl status
    ITMAgents1.lz.service' for details.

Problem summary

  • Disabled ITM service unit files can not be used interactively
    
    When kcirunas.cfg or _kdyrunas.cfg is used to stop an agent from
    starting at boot time, the service unit that is generated by
    UpdateAutoRun.sh can not be used interactively to start and stop
    the service unit.

Problem conclusion

  • The script UpdateAutoRun.sh has been changed to fix the problem.
