Error description
Error Message: A segmentation error/0C4 abend is raised by JIT compiled code . Stack Trace: N/A . This problem can only occur on IBM Z (z/OS and Linux on Z) One method known to hit the problem is org/apache/xml/serialize/XMLSerializer.printText(<OSB>CIIZZ)V The problem seems to be more likely to appear starting around Java 8 SR5 FP35
Local fix
Problem summary
An implicit assumption was made by the JIT compiler about sign extensions for type conversions. This resulted in extensions not being performed for the full 64 bits of a register in certain cases. This meant left over high order bits might not be cleared which is very likely to cause a crash.
Problem conclusion
This problem has been addressed by https://github.com/eclipse/omr/pull/4103 . This APAR will be fixed in the following Java Releases: 8 SR5 FP41 (8.0.5.41) . Contact your IBM Product's Service Team for these Service Refreshes and Fix Packs. For those running stand-alone, information about the available Service Refreshes and Fix Packs can be found at: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/
