APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • It has been identified that patching and or upgrading to QRadar
    7.3.1 Patch 6 can stall/hang for an unexpectedly long period of
    time (many hours) when a large number of assets exist in the
    QRadar environment.  The on screen message where it can
    stall/hang for an extended period of time is similar to:

    transaction blocks
    [WARN](patchmode) WARNING: SET TRANSACTION can only be used in
    transaction blocks
    [WARN](patchmode) WARNING: SET TRANSACTION can only be used in
    transaction blocks
    [WARN](patchmode) NOTICE: view "vuln_instance_meta_v" does not
    exist, skipping
    [WARN](patchmode) NOTICE: table "vuln_instance_meta" does not
    exist, skipping
    [WARN](patchmode) NOTICE: index "vuln_instance_meta_vulnid_idx"
    does not exist, skipping
    [WARN](patchmode) NOTICE: materialized view "vuln_map_asset_mv"
    does not exist, skipping
    
    This issue can occur when using the .sfs to patch to QRadar
    7.3.1 Patch 6 and also when using the .iso to perform an
    upgrade to QRadar 7.3.1 Patch 6.
    
    If your patch or upgrade to QRadar 7.3.1 Patch 6 has appeared
    to stall at the above on screen message, let the patch/upgrade
    continue.  DO NOT stop the patch/upgrade as it can take hours
    (possibly 12+ hours) to complete.  Cancelling the patch/upgrade
    can bring QRadar into a state where a rebuild is required to
    recover.
    

Local fix

  • Do not cancel/stop the QRadar 7.3.1 Patch 6 patch or upgrade if
    the above (apparent stall/hang as described) has occurred.
    If you have already cancelled the patch/upgrade to QRadar 7.3.1
    Patch 6, please log a Support case to assist further.
