Error description
mmcrnsd clears AIX pvid Reported in: GPFS 3.5 Known Impact: AIX pvid resides on both ODM and disk header. The mmcrnsd command clears pvid from disk header and after synchronization, pvid from ODM will also get cleared then lspv command will show "none" for pvid. This could cause some trouble for customer who use lspv command to monitor the disk. Verification steps: Run mmcrnsd, and watch pvid in disk header by "lquerypv -h /dev/hdisk# 80 10" command. The pvid gets cleared after mmcrnsd command.
Local fix
1) Shutdown GPFS 2) chdev -a pv=yes -l hdisk# 3) mv /var/mmfs/gen/nsdpvol /var/mmfs/gen/nsdpvol.orig 4) Run lspv again and confirm the label is displayed 5) startup GPFS
Problem summary
mmcrnsd call clears out AIX PVID on the disk.
Problem conclusion
On AIX, don't clear/format the first sector of the disk.
