Abstract

IBM I ACCESS FOR WINDOWS SUPPORT FOR MORE 64-BIT COMPONENTS

Error Description

** Last updated March 16, 2011 **

The following information describes additional support for
IBM i Access for Windows 64-bit components since 7.1 was
initially released.

In prior releases of IBM i Access for Windows, many components
were already ported to run natively in 64-bit mode when
running on 64-bit Windows operating systems (e.g. OLE DB and
ODBC database providers). Additional support for 64-bit
components has now been added.

Updates Since the Release of 7.1:
---------------------------------
Starting with IBM i Access for Windows 7.1 service pack SI42424,
the following components have been enhanced to provide native
64-bit support in addition to the existing 32-bit support:
   - Data Transfer to and from IBM i (cwbtf.exe)*
   - Data Transfer command-line utilities (rfrompcb.exe,
       rtopcb.exe, and rxferpcb.exe)*
   - Data Transfer Excel add-in
   - ActiveX Automation objects (cwbx.dll)
   - OLE Automation objects (cwbautsv.dll)
   - OLE Custom Control objects (cwbctrl.ocx)

* Support for Lotus-123 file format is only supported in the
  32-bit client.

Notes:
In order to accomodate 64-bit interfaces into the ActiveX
component, some changes were made to the cwbx.h file (this file
can be used to build C++ applications using ActiveX).
Existing 32-bit applications will continue to work without
recompilation.  However, if a 32-bit application uses any of
the following restricted and undocumented methods or properties,
then recompilation will cause a compiler error.  If this
happens, the application code must be changed to use the
32-bit/64-bit agnostic 'ULONG_PTR' instead of the 32-bit
specific 'long' data type.  The following are the affected
properties and methods:
   - Handle
   - Populate
   - Addr
   - ReceiveInfo
   - XferInfo
   - SendInfo
