Error description

  • When using a jar file consisting of .java and .class files,
unexpected results occurred because the dates associated
with the .java files were newer than those that corresponded
    to the .class files.
    .
This can be identified by issuing 'jar tvf' on the jar file
    name.
    .
It appears that the compiler is attempting to recompile the
.java files since the java source is newer than the class file.
    .

There is currently an open bug on the Sun's Java Bug Database
    (4098712).

Local fix

  • In order to work around this, any source files included in the
jar file must have timestamps that are not newer than their
corresponding class files. This will prevent the compiler
    from attempting to recompile.

Unjarring and rejarring the jar files eliminates this problem.
