Error description

  • An IPL of several LPARs received IEF503I UNIT 053D I/O ERROR .
The volumes could not be brought back online so they were
initialized and a full volume restore was performed to recover
    the data.

The problem with the lost DASD label was caused by a product
called IAM from Innovation. If creating large IAM files
(VSAM compression) in an SMS managed pool with limited space
and STOPX37 space reduction is involved, IAM overlays the
volume label when attempting to volume switch.
An 0C4 can also occur in IAM module IAMDEFIN at offset x'60c'
when STOPX37 has reduced allocation to no space.
    .
The fixes provided by Innovation are:
for IAM 6.1 P-61.0112 dated 93.074 - lost dasd label
    for IAM 6.3 P-63.0291 dated 98.083 - 0c4 abend in IAMDEFIN

    Additional Symptoms : IEC027I 737-08
    .
    Additional Keywords:
         msgIEF503I msgIEC027I abend737 rc8 rc08 abend0C4
    .
APAR II04289 contains the general MVS recovery procedures for
(Cylinder 0 Track 0) volume label corruption on non-RAMAC device
