APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The 'BACKUP VM' command on a VMware guest that has pRDM disks
  that exceed a 2TB size will fail with the following messages :
  
  ANS4174E Full VM backup of VMware Virtual Machine '<vmname>'
           failed with RC=6707 mode=Incremental Forever -
           Incremental, target node name='<target node>', data
           mover node name='<DM node>'
  ANS1228E Sending of object '<vmname>' failed.
  ANS2687W The virtual machine '<vmname>' contains one or more
           disks that exceed the maximum size limit. Specify the
           '-VMSKIPMAXVMDKS=yes' option to exclude these disks
           from the backup.
  
  even with the following active options in dsm.opt :
  
  VMPROCESSVMWITHPRDM YES
  VMPROCESSVMWITHINDEPENDENTDISK YES
  
  Adding option :
  VMSKIPMAXVMDKS YES
  
  will solve the problem but since pRDM disks will be excluded if
  the VMPROCESSVMWITHPRDM is set to YES, their size should not be
  checked for the 2TB limit.
  
  The same condition exist for Independent disks, with the message
  specific to Independent disk.

Local fix

• Set the option VMSKIPMAXVMDKS to YES.
  Caution must be used with this option.
  With this option set, the client will not fail the backup of any
  virtual machine that has disk greater than 2TB, but will
  continue the backup, skipping the disk that is over the Tivoli
  Storage Manager supported maximum size of 2TB.
