APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When a Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for Windows backup is
  mounted on remote server, and either:
  - a manual delete operation is performed for the mounted backup
  - the mounted backup expires and is automatically deleted based
  on policy settings
  the delete operation will complete successfully. However, the
  VSS snapshot and the associated flashcopy relationship on the
  the storage device will not be deleted.
  Since the delete operation deletes the reference to this backup
  in the local FlashCopy Manager for Windows database, the
  remaining snapshot and flashcopy device relationship are
  essentially orphaned on the storage device.
  

Local fix

• Manually unmount any backups mounted on a remote server before
  they are manually deleted or automatically deleted based on
  policy definitions.

Problem conclusion

• The Tivoli Storage Manager Client has been updated to handle
  VSS deletion errors (VSS Error, CIMOM Error, Storage Device
  Error) received from the VSS HW provider.
