Error description
An incremental snapdiff backup is reported as successful though not all changed files have been saved. A client trace analysis shows a network failure which is not reported in dsmerror.log , neither in dsmsched.log: ANS1005I TCP/IP read error on socket = 1452, errno = 10054, reason : 'An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host In the Tivoli Storage Manager server activity log, there is a session timeout some time before which explains the client network error : ANR0482W Session xxx for node "nodename" (client platform) terminated - idle for more than 30 minutes The backup finishes "successfully", despite this error, but it does not save everything that should have been saved. Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: AIX, Linux and Windows client release 6.1 , 6.2 , 6.3 , 6.4 , 7.1 Customer/L2 Diagnostics: - The client dsmsched.log shows success, but only a few objects have been saved when a lot more are expected : Incremental by snapshot difference of volume '\\filer\backup$' .... Local fix
- Increase the server option IDLETIMEOUT value to a larger value to prevent the timeout while backup is on going. example: SETOPT IDLETIMEOUT 180 And run one backup with additional option -createnewbase=yes to force the backup of all missed files, this option must be used at least one time and removed for next backup..
