APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• In the Tivoli Storage Manager Client for AIX, the installation
  script does not perform correctly, if a conflicting fileset is
  already installed on the system.
  When the tivoli.tsm.client.ba.64bit fileset supplying the
  backup-archive client is installed and  one tries to install for
  example the tivoli.tsm.client.ba64.gpfs fileset shipped with HSM
  for GPFS in addition, "package db" entries are partially
  overwritten.
  
  AIX command "lslpp -l" indicates that both filesets
  (tivoli.tsm.client.ba64.gpfs and  tivoli.tsm.client.ba.64bit)
  have been installed. However the latter installation overwrites
  entries of the former, although overwriting of binaries supplied
  by the filesets does not take place. So we end up with a
  mismatch between "package db" entries and actually installed
  files.

Local fix

• Before performing an install, check on the system if the
  tivoli.tsm.client.ba.64bit, tivoli.tsm.client.ba64.gpfs or
  tivoli.tsm.client.ba64.jfs2  filesets are already installed and
  uninstall them accordingly the needs.
  Here a simple table describing the filesets:
  - tsm.client.ba.64bit   for backups/archival without HSM
  - tivoli.tsm.client.ba64.gpfs  for backups/archival with HSM on
  GPFS
  - tivoli.tsm.client.ba64.jfs2  for backups/archival with HSM on
  JFS2

  Two backup-archive clients could be installed on the same
  system (one for HSM JFS2 and one for HSM GPFS) resulting
  in incorrect backup-archive client and failed backups.
  

Problem conclusion

• Installation script updated to verify prerequisites properly
  thus preventing user from installing HSM GPFS on top of HSM
  JFS2 client, and vice versa.
