APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If you create a connection factory (CF) with jmsadmin similar to
    the following :

    def cf(CFNAME) qmanager(QMGRNAME) TRANSPORT(CLIENT)
    HOSTNAME(MY_HOST) port(1414)

You will not receive any errors.
However, the underscore in the hostname is a restricted
character and so should not be allowed and an error should be
    returned.

Consequently you will not be able to display this connection
    factory nor to delete it.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects users of the WebSphere MQ v7.5 JMSAdmin tool,
who wish create a JMS Connection Factory object, where the
hostname property contains characters that are not considered
valid for a hostname. An example of this is the underscore
character ('_'), which may be valid to use in certain network
    infrastructures.

    Platforms affected:

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
A validation check was introduced in WeSphere MQ v7.5 to
validate the HOSTNAME while displaying or altering a
connection factory definition, but was not applied when creating
the connection factory definition. This meant that if the
HOSTNAME property contained an underscore character, the
creation would complete successfully, but then the validation
check would fail if the user attempted to display or modify
the definition, causing the JMSAdmin tool to fail to display
or update any information about the connection factory.

Problem conclusion

  • The WebSphere MQ JMS classes have been modified to remove the
validation checks on the HOSTNAME property. This permits the use
of special characters, such as the underscore.

This means that when defining, viewing or modifying a connection
factory with either a hostname or connection name list which
contains an underscore character in the hostname, no errors will
    be thown..

Users must ensure that the values supplied for the hostname
    are valid within their environment.
