APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• A startup delay can be observed for Tivoli Storage Manager
  clients on POWER 7 CPU architecture.  This delay occurs when
  loading the ICC modules.
  
  APAR IC80341 was opened to implement a circumvention until a
  permanent fix can be made available.  Via that APAR, a new
  TESTFLAG called "ICCTRNGALT" was introduced in 6.3.1.0 and
  6.4.0.0 (see APAR IC80341 for more details).  The introduction
  of this TESTFLAG is only a partial circumvention and may not
  resolve the issue in all cases.
  
  Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
  Capture a client SERVICE trace and review for delays during
  ICC initialization.  For example:

  Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
  All Version 6.3, 6.4, and 7.1 Tivoli Storage Manager Backup-
  Archive Clients running on AIX POWER 7 architecture.

Local fix

• One or more of the following options can provide relief
  for this issue when gskit 8.0.14.13 (or newer) is applied:
  
  Option 1:
  Export the following environment variables prior to starting
  the client:
     export ICC_IGNORE_FIPS=YES
     export ICC_TRNG=ALT
  
  Option 2:
  Export the following environment variables prior to starting
  the client:
  
     export ICC_IGNORE_FIPS=YES
     export ICC_TRNG=ALT2
  Option 3:
  Export the following environment variable prior to starting
  the client:
  
     export ICC_IGNORE_FIPS=YES
  
  Additionally, implement the following TESTFLAGS in the dsm.opt
  option file:
  
     TESTFLAGS ICCTRNGALT
     TESTFLAGS ICCNONFIPS
  
  If SSL is enabled, the following option should also be
  implemented in the options file:
  
     SSLFIPSMODE OFF
  
  NOTE: Option 3 is not valid when starting the client as a
        non-root user.

Problem conclusion

• The problem has been fixed so that it no longer occurs.
  

Temporary fix
