  • Problem Description:

    Using HOD 11.0.3.0, after upgrading to Java 1.7.0_15 or 1.7.0_17
    the customer started getting MD5 error when using WebStart
    client.

    If they uncheck "Keep temporary files" the problem goes away,
    but they can't see the desktop icon's.

    This happens if multiple the Webstart setups with different
    functions defined for each setup. The second one that is
    launched gets a MD5 error.

Local fix

  • use Java 1.6

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All Web-Start client users with java 1.7 *
    *                 and above.                                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When multiple independent html pages *
    * are defined for each HOD function such *
    * as 3270 or 5250 or VT, each function *
    * has only preload jars for that html *
    * page, for example 3270 page would not *
    *                      have 5250 functions(jars). In this      *
    * case, the first html page works fine. *
    * However, any second page brought up *
    * (with other functions) will result in *
    *                      an MD5 error.                           *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    With Java 1.7.0_x, the file streams opened in try-catch
    blocks are implicitly closing all the file streams. With this
    new behavior, file streams are not getting closed properly
    when HOD tries to close file streams explicitly.

Problem conclusion

  • To resolve this issue, HOD adopted the new feature of Java
    where it implicitly closes all the file streams. Existing
    logic to close file streams explicitly is also retained to
    work with lower versions of Java.

    Fix scheduled for HOD 11.0.8 refresh pack

Temporary fix
