Error description

  • Messages sent by a z/OS queue manager in CCSID 1147 contains
the EBCDIC New Line character x'15'. When an MQGET is attempted
on that message with convert option on a windows queue manager
in CCSID 819, the conversion of the New Line character is
    different between MQ V7.0.1 and V7.1 / V7.5.

Following table summarizes the behavior seen

    NL char MQ 7.0.1 MQ 7.1 / 7.5
    EBCDIC ASCII ASCII
    converted to converted to
    x'15' x'85 x'0A'

On the server queue manager on Windows, ConvEBCDICNewline=TABLE
    is used.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of MQ version 7.1 and 7.5 setting the value
    ConvEBCDICNewline=TABLE

    Platforms affected:
    Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The newline character was not being converted according to the
conversion tables although the value of ConvEBCDICNewline was
set to TABLE on the windows queue manager. This was causing the
new line character to be converted into a different ASCII value
    on 7.1/7.5.

Problem conclusion

  • In the WebSphere MQ code the value of the attribute
ConvEBCDICNewline was not read properly due to which the code
was traversing a different path and hence the conversion was
    not taking place correctly.

The fix ensures that the value of the attribute is read properly
and the conversion of the newline character happens according to
the values in the conversion tables.
