Error description

  • A WebSphere MQ dotnet Client application connects to a remote
    queue manager using the transport property,
    TRANSPORT_MQSERIES_MANAGED.

    If a channel security exit is used on queue manager side and
    if the exit closes the connection for any reason, the
    application fails with following stack trace on the
    console:

    Unhandled Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object
    reference not set to an instance of an object.
    at IBM.WMQ.MQFAPConnection.AsyncFailureNotify(Exception ex,
    Boolean quiescing)
    at IBM.WMQ.MQRcvThread.Run()
    at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart_Context(Object
    state)
    at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext
    executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state)
    at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()

    An error should be returned such as MQRC_Q_MGR_NOT_AVAILABLE,
    MQRC=2059 to the application not a NullPointer exception.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    WebSphere MQ v7.0.1 managed .NET applications only. This problem
    is not applicable to WebSphere MQ v7.1 and v7.5.

    Platforms affected:
    Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
    The WebSphere MQ managed .NET application crashes instead of
    reporting an error when the connection is closed by the
    security exit. The System.NullReferenceException is thrown
    while accessing a member variable of a null object.

Problem conclusion

  • The WebSphere MQ code is modified to check if the object is
    null before accessing a member variable.
