APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When uninstalling the IBM WebSphere File Transfer Edition
fixpack 7.0.4.1 or 7.0.2.1, the uninstaller will attempt to
delete all files on the disk on which the configuration
resides if the 'Remove configuration directory' option is
    selected during the uninstall.

If 'Remove configuration directory' is not selected the
uninstall will only remove product files.

Local fix

  • Do not select 'Remove configuration directory' whilst
uninstalling the product. Once uninstallation is complete,
remove the configuration files manually if required. This will
prevent the removal of non-product files.

    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The uninstallation of WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition 7.0.4.1
or 7.0.2.1 can result in all files on the disk on which the
product is being installed being deleted if the 'Remove
configuration directory' option is selected during the uninstall
process. This is due to invalid values being written during the
fixpack installation process which result in the configuration
directory invalidly being marked as '/'. This has the
consequence of deleting all files on disk if the 'Remove
configuration directory' uninstall option is selected.

Problem conclusion

  • The fixpack installer has been altered to ensure that it does
not write invalid values during the installation process. Due to
the nature of the change, relief is not available by iFix. The
problem can be resolved by installing any fixpack containing
this APAR, or alternatively installing a GA version of the
product. For example 7.0.2.1 could be upgraded to 7.0.4.0 to
    correct the issue.

7.0.4.1 installations will need to be upgraded to 7.0.4.2 when
    available to resolve the issue.

Customers without relief should ensure that they use the
workaround of not selecting the 'Remove configuration directory'
    option during uninstall.
