APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Huge delays may be seen during connecting and disconnecting from
a WebSphere MQ V7 queue manager when multiple threads
simultaneously attempt to connect and disconnect from the queue
manager. The delay is seen when shared conversation of the
client and server connection channels is 1.

Local fix

  • The workaround is set Shared Conversation to 0 providing you do
not wish to use the following WebSphere MQ V7 features :

    Administrator stop-quiesce
    Heartbeating
    Read ahead
    Client asynchronous consume

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Multi threaded client application that connects to WebSphere MQ
    V7 queue manager.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
Performance issues seen with multi threaded applications that
repeatedly connect and disconnect from the queue manager with
shared conversation (SHARECNV) of the channels set to a value
greater than 0. When shared conversation is set to a value
greater than 0 then locking contention causes delay while more
than 1 thread simultaneously connects or disconnects. This
delay is unexpected seen when the shared conversation is set 1.

Problem conclusion

  • The code is modified so that the locking contention are removed
if the shared conversation value is 1.
