Error description

  • Using WebSphere MQ Explorer V7.1, in the left navigation panel
select a queue manager and display the Properties. Then select
    the page: Events.

Changing the attribute for the "Logger events" to "Enabled"
from the default "Disabled", results in the following error
    message being displayed:

Error applying changes from page "Events"
Reason: The value of one of the properties specified
is not valid. The request was not processed (AMQ4126).

The change to "Enabled" for all the other fields in that page
    works without an error message.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects users of the WebSphere MQ V7.1 and V7.5
Explorer who want to modify the Logger events attribute
(LOGGEREV) of a queue manager which has been configured to use
    circular logging.

    Platforms affected:
    Linux (Power),Linux (x86),Linux (x86-64),Linux (zSeries),
    Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
WebSphere MQ queue managers that use linear logging can be
configured to generate logger events when the queue manager
starts writing log records to a new log extent or, on IBM i,
    to a new journal receiver.

When the Logger events attribute (LOGGEREV) is modified using
WebSphere MQ Explorer, a PCF command message is sent to the
queue manager specifying the new value. The queue manager
processes the PCF message and sets the value of LOGGEREV to
    either:

    ENABLED

    or

    DISABLED

    as appropriate.

WebSphere MQ Explorer did not check the logging mode of the
queue manager before sending the PCF message. If the queue
manager had been configured to use circular logging, then the
PCF command message could not be processed by the queue manager
and an error would be returned to the WebSphere MQ Explorer.
This caused the WebSphere MQ Explorer to display the following
    error message:

Error applying changes from page "Events"
Reason: The value of one of the properties specified
is not valid. The request was not processed (AMQ4126).

Problem conclusion

  • The WebSphere MQ Explorer has been updated so that the Logger
Events attribute (LOGGEREV) can only be modified for local
queue managers if the queue manager the WebSphere MQ Explorer
is connected to has been configured to use linear logging.

If WebSphere MQ Explorer is connected to a local queue manager
that has been configured to use circular logging, the text:

Logger Events are only valid when using a linear logging
    queue manager.

is displayed on the Events page next to the "Logger events:"
    label.

It is not possible for WebSphere MQ Explorer to check if a
remote queue manager has been configured to use linear or
circular logging. When WebSphere MQ Explorer is connected to a
    remote queue manager, the text:

Logger Events are only valid when using a linear logging
    queue manager.

is displayed beneath the drop down list for the Logger Events
attribute. This acts as a prompt for users to check that the
remote queue manager has been configured to use linear logging
before trying to enable Logger Events.
