APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • WebSphere MQ v7 queue managers may leak memory when a
multiplexed channel is in use for client connections. The size
of memory leaked in each instance is extremely small (88 bytes)
which means it can take several hours of the running application
code before it is likely that a problem may be encountered, or
even for it to be noticed.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of WebSphere MQ client who have multiplexing enabled on
    their channels

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The problem was caused by a section of code that allocated
memory to lookup connection information but failed to release it
later after all connections on a particular socket were closed.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was modified to free memory when it detects that no
connections on a particular socket are active.
