APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • WebSphere MQ V6 or V7 queues become "missing" from clusters.

Application calls to MQOPEN (sometimes MQPUT1, MQPUT) suffer
queue name lookup errors (Examples: 2085, 2082) when they try to
    access the affected cluster queues.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This problem can affect systems in which a Full Repository has
recently changed the list of clusters in which it hosts a Full
Repository, or has ceased to be a Full Repository. It has also
been seen to affect systems in which REFRESH CLUSTER has been
run on a Full Repository queue manager.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
At the point in time when a new Full Repository (FR) queue
manager ceases to host a Full Repository for a particular
cluster, details of this change are sent to Partial Repository
(PR) queue managers, which then perform some processing.

The processing includes an enumeration over all subscriptions
previously made by this PR to this FR, and some processing of
these subscriptions takes place. For each such subscription, if
it is determined that an insufficient set of subscriptions would
remain after deleting it, then up to 2 new subscriptions are
made via other CLUSSDR channels for a FR or FRs in that cluster.

If such subscriptions were ever needed then the new
subscriptions made at this point in time were MISSING a vital
piece of information. This information prevented the newly made
subscriptions being used properly to refresh the knowledge of
the queues to which they referred.

Problem conclusion

  • The WebSphere MQ product code has been corrected such that, in
the scenario above, subscriptions that are made will HAVE the
vital piece of information they need. They will then function
correctly to refresh the knowledge of the queues to which they
    referred.
