IC81139: TSM CLIENT ACCEPTOR AND REMOTE CLIENT AGENT SERVICES MAY BE RE- CONFIGURED WHEN CONFIGURING THE DATA PROTECTION FOR EXCHANGE 6.3

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• After installing the "IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail Data
  Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server", Data Protection for
  Exchange 6.3 needs to be configured using the TSM configuration
  wizard.
  
  The TSM configuration wizard includes a Custom Configuration
  page which includes two options: Default (Recommended for most
  environments) and Custom.  If the TSM Administrative Client
  Command Line interface is not installed at the point when DP for
  Exchange configuration is attempted, the Custom option can not
  be selected and the Default option will be selected and used.
  
  When the Default option is selected, the TSM configuration
  wizard will create and configure two services: "TSM Client
  Acceptor" and "TSM Remote Client Agent."  It will also update
  the dsm.opt file in the TSM Backup-Archive Client folder.  The
  new service and option file settings will replace any existing
  settings.
  
  Note that when the Custom option is selected, the two service
  names, the Acceptor port number, and the name of the option file
  to use can be specified. If the Custom option is desired, then
  the TSM Backup-Archive Client and TSM Administrative Client
  Command Line interface must be installed prior to running the
  TSM configuration wizard for Data Protection for Exchange.  To
  install the TSM Administrative Client Command Line interface run
  the TSM Backup-Archive Client setup program, choose Custom
  setup, select the Administrative Client Command Line files and
  complete the setup wizard.
  
  Once the fix for this APAR is available and after it is
  installed, only the BA client will need to be installed to
  choose the Custom option.

Local fix

• Before configuring DP for Exchange, run a custom installation of
  the TSM backup-archive Client and then install the
  "Administrative Client Command Line" component to prevent the
  previously defined TSM Client Acceptor and Remote Agent Services
  configuration from being reconfigured.
  
  In the scenario where the TSM Client Acceptor and Remote Agent
  Services configuration has been reconfigured, the configuration
  options for these services must be redefined by removing and
  recreating them with the dsmcutil tool or using the wizard
  available in the TSM Backup-Archive Client GUI.

  The Data Protection for Exchange Management Console
  Configuration Wizard should not disable the "Default" and
  "Custom" radio buttons on the "Custom Configuration/Helps to
  configure VSS Requestor services" window, when a Tivoli
  Storage Manager Administrative Client is not installed. It
  should disable the buttons only when a Tivoli Storage Manager
  Backup-Archive Client is not installed. Also there should be a
  warning message in that case.
  

Problem conclusion

• The Data Protection for Exchange Management Console has been
  changed to disable the "Default" and "Custom" radio buttons on
  the "Custom Configuration/Helps to configure VSS Requestor
  services" window and show a proper warning message, when a
  Tivoli Storage Manager  Backup-Archive Client is not installed.
