Error description

  • Client applications connecting to a WebSphere MQ v7.0.1.x queue
manager fail unexpectedly and the channel terminates.

The initial error is for the channel process (amqrmppa) for
which MQ creates an FDC with a probe identifier of XC589161.

    The MQ error log reports:
AMQ6125: An internal WebSphere MQ error has occurred.

    FDC shows:
    Probe Id :- XC589161
    Component :- xihCSThreadClear
    Process Name :- C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\bin
    \amqrmppa.exe
    Major Errorcode :- xecS_E_BLOCK_NOT_FREE

The execution controller process (amqzxma0) then reports that a
    FASTPATH application has ended unexpectedly.

    The MQ error log reports:
AMQ7159: A FASTPATH application has ended unexpectedly.

    FDC shows:
    Probe Id :- ZX005022
    Component :- zxcProcessChildren
    Process Name :- C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\bin
    \amqzxma0.exe
    Major Errorcode :- lrcW_S_FAST_PATH_APP_DEAD

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
There are three conditions that lead to this error and all must
be present for this specific failure to occur:

    1) The channel process is running with FASTPATH bindings
    2) The client has an active xa_open when it disconnects. This
could happen, for example, if a client application were to exit
    before calling xa_close.
    3) The channel over which the client is communicating with the
queue manager has a SHARECNV value of zero, OR the client is at
a level older than WebSphere MQ v7.0.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The specific combination of three conditions listed above caused
a particular code path to be taken in the destructor code of the
channel thread. This combination resulted in the failure of a
check used to make sure a block of memory was freed. This
failure resulted in the abnormal ending of the amqrmppa process.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was changed so that implicit xa_end and xa_close calls
are made. This change alters the flow of the code so that the
block of memory causing the problem is now freed before the
    thread ends.
