IC77098: WMQ V7 EXPLORER DOES NOT DISPLAY LOWER CASE EBCDIC DATA CORRECTLY

Error description

  • When using WebSphere MQ V7 Explorer or the MS0T WebSphere MQ
    Explorer SupportPac, when a message whose data is in EBCDIC is
    browsed, the lower case EBCDIC characters are displayed as "."
    (dots).
    This can be seen only in the 'Data' part of the "Message
    Properties" window. The hex values of the characters are
    correctly displayed but in the 'eye-catcher' translation of the
    data, the lower case EBCDIC characters are displayed incorrectly
    as "." (period or dot) which internally refers to data that
    cannot be displayed.
    
    Note: The problem can be observed in the right-most part of the
    'Message data bytes' field.

    USERS AFFECTED:
    This issue affects users of WMQ V7 Explorer who attempt to
    browse messages whose contents are in EBCDIC (CCSID 500) from
    the WMQ Explorer.

    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
    The part of the WMQ V7 Explorer code which performed the
    necessary formatting and conversion to display the 'Message data
    bytes' did not consider the situation of the message data being
    in EBCDIC.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The WMQ Explorer code has now been fixed so that the lower case
    EBCDIC characters are displayed correctly in the right most part
    of the 'Message data bytes' field in the 'Message properties'
    window.
