APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The user was running a WebSphere MQ program on Windows, but
the user name was not valid for use with WebSphere MQ. The user
    name was too long.

An FDC file is written, but the text in the FDC file is not
clear enough to show what was wrong with the user name. Instead
the error text appears to suggest that the fault is within
    WebSphere MQ code.

The unexpected system return code in the FDC file is Windows
error 122: "the data area passed to a system call is too small".

    The FDC is:

    Probe Id :- XC274144
    Component :- xcsGetNTUserName
    Major Errorcode :- xecF_E_UNEXPECTED_SYSTEM_RC
    Comment1 :- WinNT error 122 from GetUserName.
Comment2 :- The data area passed to a system call is too
    small.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users incorrectly trying to run a WebSphere MQ application with
a user name that is too long.

    Platforms affected:
    Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The user name was too long, and this is a problem outside of
WebSphere MQ. However, the diagnostic information in the FDC
file was not clear enough to lead to quick resolution.

Problem conclusion

  • The outward behavior of WebSphere MQ's interfaces does not
change with this APAR. However, the details in the FDC file will
no longer suggest that WebSphere MQ is making incorrect calls
to the Operating System. Instead the details in the FDC file
will be clear about what was wrong with the user name.
