IC73231: DELETE VOLHISTORY DOES NOT RETURN DBBACKUP VOLUMES TO SCRATCH

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If a DB backup failed and if the volumes have been allocated for
    this DB backup as DBBACKUP private volumes,
    these volume will get orphaned.  After the delete volhist was
    issued, these volumes will not be put back to scratch.
    .
    For example:
    The DB2 APAR IC65595 can cause the DB backup to fail -2428 at a
    late stage of the DB backup.
    The tape volume has been allocated as dbbackup private volume.
    Since the DB backup failed, the Tivoli Storage Manager did not
    return these volumes to scratch.

Local fix

  • - Generate a list of volumes from QUERY LIBVOLUME for all
      volumes with  "Last Use" equal "DbBackup"
    - Take off all volumes from the list above from volumes find in
      QUERY VOLUMEHISTOTY TYPE=DBBACKUP
    - Checkout the volumes from found list: CHECKOUT LIBVOLUME with
      options REMOVE=NO and CHECKLABEL=NO
    - Checkin these volumes with LABEL LIBVOLUME with options
      CHECKIN=SCRATCH and OVERWRITE=YES
