Error description

  • The WebSphere MQ V7.0 classes for JMS (Java Message Service)
applications request messages from the queue manager using the
    MQGET option:

    MQGMO_CONVERT

This option requests that the queue manager performs message
data conversion before sending the message to the JMS
    application.

There is no mechanism which permits the client application to
configure the use of this setting using the WebSphere MQ
    classes for JMS.

The WebSphere MQ V6 classes for JMS do not use this option.
This means that messages are retrieved from the queue in the
form with which they were stored on the queue, and the
WebSphere MQ classes for JMS are responsible for data
conversion into a native form for use within the JVM and client
    application.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    This issue affects users of:

    - the WebSphere MQ V7.0 classes for JMS.
    - the WebSphere Application Server V7 WebSphere MQ messaging
    provider.
    - the WebSphere Application Server V6 WebSphere MQ messaging
provider who have configured the WebSphere Variable
MQ_INSTALL_ROOT to point to a WebSphere MQ V7 installation.
    - the WebSphere MQ V7 Resource Adapter.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows) +Java
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The MQGMO_CONVERT option was added to the MQGET request
associated with the WebSphere MQ V7.0 classes for JMS's receive
    request:

    MQMessageConsumer.receive()

as a way to enable WebSphere MQ conversion exits to be run when
requesting messages with a JMS client.

This change was intended to be transparent to existing JMS
applications. However several problems have been reported for
applications which have been migrated from the WebSphere MQ V6
    classes for JMS to V7.0.

Problem conclusion

  • Two new properties have been added to WebSphere MQ JMS
Destination objects which permits configuration of both the
MQGMO_CONVERT option when performing message receive requests,
and the CCSID which the queue manager is requested to convert a
message to when using message conversion.

    These properties are:

    RECEIVECONVERSION Configures use of MQGMO_CONVERT.
RECEIVECCSID Requested CCSID to convert the message to
    when using MQGMO_CONVERT.

Their use is described in detail in the technote:
