Error description

  • The managed .NET client does not call the socket shutdown prior
    to closing the socket. This can result in AMQ9208 in the queue
    manager error log.

    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
    AMQ9208 error messages are observed when a managed .NET
    connection to a queue manager is disconnected. The number of
    AMQ9208 entries seen in AMQERROR log file will depend on the
    number of time the disconnect happens in the client application.
    
    WebSphere MQ closes its connection to the queue manager by
    calling the socket close method. However, the .NET Socket close
    should be done only after a Socket.Shutdown call to ensure that
    all the data exchange between the sockets are completed before
    the close of socket. In the error scenario, the close flow
    never leaves the TCPIP buffer, and hence the server believes
    the connection has been abnormally terminated.
    

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere MQ has been modified to add a Socket.Shutdown call
    before the Socket.Close call to ensure that TCP flow is
    completed between sockets.
    
    Note: AMQ9208 is quite a generic error message and usually
    issued when a connection to a WebSphere MQ server is abnormally
    interrupted. This APAR only fixes a .NET scenario where it is
    issued in error.
