Error description

  • The Tivoli Storage Manager 6.2 upgrade process can fail during
    the db2ckupgrade step with the following errors:
    .
      Checking the database: TSMDB1
    .
      An error occurred during the database check.
      The db2ckupgrade script has detected an error on your
      database(s). The wizard cannot continue with the installation.
      Perform the necessary database fixes and retry the
      installation.
    .
    The installer can fail during this step due to a few different
    reasons, however, this record will cover one such case;
    .
    The installer executes the db2ckupgrade utility(which is
    provided with the install package) as the OS instance user.
    This means that the instance user needs to have executable
    permissions to the "db2ckupgrade" utility provided within
    the installer extract location.
    .
    If the installer is extracted to a location that the instance
    user does not have permissions to(for example, /root), the
    above error can be issued when db2ckupgrade is executed.
    .
    The installation publications need be updated to detail that
    the installer package should be extracted to a location in
    which the TSM instance user and the root user can both access.
    .

Local fix

  • Change the permissions such that the instance user can execute
    the db2ckupgrade utility within the installation extract.

Problem conclusion

  • Added this information to Step 2. b. of the Installing topic:
    
    Tip: The files are extracted to the current directory. Ensure
    that the executable file is in the directory where you want
    the extracted files to be located. Also, ensure that you
    extract the Tivoli Storage Manager installation wizard to a
    directory where the root user ID and instance user ID have
    executable permission.
    
    Affected platforms:  AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, Linux.
