Error description

  • When the CCSID is set to 1051 and you run a WebSphere MQ v7
.NET client application, you get a NullReferenceException.
    The exception thrown shows:
    System.NullReferenceException: Object reference is not
    defined at object instance.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of .NET application that uses CCSID which does not have a
direct mapping to a .NET encoding (for example CCSID 1051).

    Platforms affected:
    Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
An unmanaged .NET application throws a NullReferenceException
when MQAPI calls such as GET/PUT are performed when unsupported
CCSIDs such as 1051 are set using the MQCCSID environment
variable. The call that is issued to retrieve the .Net encoding
returns NULL if an unsupported CCSID such as 1051 is used. The
NullReferenceException occurs when trying to reference the
null object returned from the GetEncoding call.

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been modified so that if there is an attempt to use
an unsupported encoding, then the default ASCII encoding is used
    instead.
