Error description

  • FDCs with Probe ids MQ000001 and UN179001 are produced from
component XATMShowXID during an attempt to recover by an
external transaction manager. The FDCs contain the following
    stack:
    MQRMIRecover
    XATMShowXID
    xcsFFST

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Any users of WebSphere MQ using an external transaction manager
to coordinate global units of work.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The problem was caused by an invalid sanity check against the
XID provided by the external transaction manager during an
xa_recover callback when the external transaction manager is
attempting to abort running transactions. During the xa_recover
callback from the external transaction manager, WebSphere MQ
attempts to verify that the XID passed in contains valid
content. However, during an xa_recover call, this parameter
should only be regarded as an output parameter and is likely to
contain uninitialised data. It is then the responsibility of
the resource manager (WebSphere MQ) to return an array of XIDs
to the transaction manager representing the currently active
    transactions eligible for recovery.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere MQ was modified to remove the validity check against
the XID parameter during an xa_recover callback. Note that this
APAR does not resolve anything to do with why the transaction
manager issued an xa_recover in the first place. It only
prevents the invalid FDC from being produced when this callback
    is issued.
