Error description

  • Using the multi-instance queue manager set up provided with
WebSphere MQ V7.0.1, in the following scenario the standby
queue manager is unable to start due to running processes,
despite endmqm having been issued beforehand.

    1. Node 1: strmqm -x
(the queue manager is started in active
    2. Node 2: strmqm -x
(the queue manager is started in standby
    3. Node 1: endmqm
    (both queue manager instances are
    4. Node 2: strmqm -x

Step 4. fails because amqxssvn.exe and amqzxma0.exe are still
running, when they should have been ended by the previous
endmqm command in step 3. The error messages given are:

AMQ8041: The queue manager cannot be restarted or deleted
because processes, that were previously connected, are still
running. Process 5100 is still running.
AMQ7018: The queue manager operation cannot be completed.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of multi-instance queue managers using WebSphere MQ
    v7.0.1.0 for Windows.

    Platforms affected:
    Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The amqzxma0 process on the standby queue manager instance was
not shutting down cleanly in this scenario. Subsequently trying
to start another instance of the queue manager fails because
the processes of the previous instance are still running.

Problem conclusion

  • The order of processing for shutting down a standby queue
manager instance was improved to ensure that the process always
    ends cleanly.
