Error description
The queue manager terminated abnormally as the result of an access violation originating in the critical process manager (amqzmuc0). An FDC with Probe ID XC130031 exhibited the following stack at the time of the failure: zmuThreadMain zmuExpirerTask kpiExpirerTask apiGetMessage aqmGetMessage aqhGetMessage xcsGetMemFn xcsFFST The actual failure occurred during an operating system malloc operation indicative of a heap corruption within the process. The stack shows that MQ was attempting to expire messages at the time of the failure.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: Any users of WebSphere MQ who are expiring a high volume of messages. Platforms affected: All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows) **************************************************************** PROBLEM SUMMARY: The problem was caused due to the fact that the expirer thread was repeatedly reaching its expiry limit of 102 messages. This resulted in an error being returned from the get operation to the caller (the expirer thread). However, during get processing for expired messages, if the message does not fit into the buffer provided by the caller, MQ will allocate a larger buffer for the message and update a variable which tracks the size of the buffer. Under the error condition outlined above, MQ was returning the original buffer to the caller with the incorrect updated length. As a result, subsequent calls using the same buffer with the incorrect length would result in buffer overruns, thus corrupting the heap.
Problem conclusion
WebSphere MQ was modified to ensure that the buffer size is maintained correctly to reflect the actual buffer size on exit from the get processing routine. --------------------------------------------------------------- The fix is targeted for delivery in the following PTFs: v7.0 Platform Fix Pack 7.0.1.2 -------- -------------------- Windows U200316 AIX U829807 HP-UX (PA-RISC) U829678 HP-UX (Itanium) U829681 Solaris (SPARC) U829806 Solaris (x86-64) U829680 iSeries tbc_p700_0_1_2 Linux (x86) U829677 Linux (x86-64) U829676 Linux (zSeries) U829682 Linux (Power) U829679 The latest available maintenance can be obtained from 'WebSphere MQ Recommended Fixes' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006037 If the maintenance level is not yet available, information on its planned availability can be found in 'WebSphere MQ Planned Maintenance Release Dates' http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006309 ---------------------------------------------------------------
