Error description

  • An access violation occurs in the command server process
leading to it terminating abnormally. An FDC with probe ID
XC130031 is generated. The FDC originates in the amqpcsea
process and has the following stack:
    MQM Function Stack
    pcmMain
    pcmProcessMessage
    pcmSendNonDataReplyMsg
    xcsFFST

An application was performing system administration on the
queue manager by putting PCF messages to the
    SYSTEM.ADMIN.COMMAND.QUEUE when the access violation
    occurred.

Local fix

  • Set the queue manager attribute Publish/Subscribe to Enabled.
With Publish/Subscribe enabled, the application just returns
the error but the command server is not stopped and there is
    dead-letter queue message.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Any users of WebSphere MQ who use applications that put PCF
    messages to the SYSTEM.ADMIN.COMMAND.QUEUE.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The problem was caused by the fact that the MQ command server
was unable to successfully put a message to a reply queue
whilst processing a PCF request. A logic error within the code
path to deal with this situation resulted in a storage
overwrite which caused the command server to crash.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere MQ was modified to ensure that the code path dealing
with rerouting a PCF reply message to a different queue as the
result of failing to write it to the reply queue did not cause
    the command server to crash.
