APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Backup sets and Table of Contents (TOC) support for NAS
  backups are disabled in the Tivoli Storage Manager v6.1.0 and
  6.1.1 servers.
  
  No new backup sets or NAS backups with TOCs can be created on
  a v6.1.0 or v6.1.1 server.  Attempts to run GENERATE BACKUPSET
  result in the following error:
  
  This command is currently unsupported in this level of TSM
  6.1 Server.  It will be supported in a future TSM 6.1 Server
  Fix Pack.
  
  Attempts to run BACKUP NODE with a TOC results in the
  following error:
  
  TOC operations are currently unsupported in this level of TSM
   6.1 Server.  It will be supported in a future TSM 6.1 Server
   Fix Pack.
  
  Existing v5 servers that have backup sets or NAS backups with
  TOCs are not able to upgrade to v6.1.0.  Attempting to run
  INSERTDB results in one or both of the following errors:
  
  ANR1046E Database upgrade not currently supported for this
   server because it uses backup sets.
  ANR1047E Database upgrade not currently supported for this
   server because it uses NAS backups with TOCs
  
  Additionally, the format of a backup set created by a v6.1.2
  server changed to accommodate data sent by a v6.1.0 or higher
  client.  Any GENERATE BACKUPSET command that includes data
  from a v6.1.0 or higher client will create a backup set in the
  new format. This new format can only be restored by the
  v6.1.0.2 or higher client. Older clients, including v5.5,
  v6.1.0.0 and v6.1.0.1, will not be able to restore from a
  backup set in the new format and will report the following
  error:
  
  ANS9782S The selected backup set was generated by a newer
   version of the backup server, and the new backup set version
   is not supported by this client; The backup set data cannot be
   restored by this version of the client.
  
  Backup sets that only include data from v5.4 and v5.5 clients
  will be in the old format and can be restored by both v5.5 and
  v6.1 clients.

Problem conclusion

• Support for backup sets and NAS backups with TOCs is
  re-enabled in the v6.1.2 server.  New backup sets and NAS
  backups with TOCs can also be created with a v6.1.2 server.
  Backup sets generated on a v6.1.2 server with data from a
  v6.1.0.0 or higher client will be in a new format.
  
  Existing v5.5 servers that have backup sets or NAS backups
  with TOCs will be able to upgrade to v6.1.2.  Note that the
  PREPAREDB and EXTRACTDB commands will still report the
  following warnings:
  
  ANR1444W Database upgrade may not be supported for this server
  because it uses backup sets.
  ANR1445W Database upgrade may not be supported for this server
  because it uses NAS backups with TOCs.
  
  However, the INSERTDB into v6.1.2 will allow the objects.
  
  Backup sets created in the new format by a v6.1.2 server can
  be restored only by a v6.1.0.2 or higher client. If a backup
  set is generated on the 6.1.2 server with data from a 6.1.0.0
  or 6.1.0.1 client, that backup set will be in the new format
  and will require a 6.1.0.2 or higher client to restore it - it
  cannot be restored by the 6.1.0.0 or 6.1.0.1 client.  Note
  that no v5.5 clients will be able to restore from a backup set
  in the new format, so it is important to not mix v5.5 and v6.1
  client levels in the same GENERATE BACKUPSET command.
  
  Any backup sets generated on a v5 server that is upgraded to
  v6.1.2 or are defined to a v6.1.2 server, will be unchanged
  and will be restorable by v5.5 and v6.1 clients. Backup sets
  generated on a v6.1.2 server that only include data from v5.5
  clients will be in the old format and can be restored by both
  v5.5 and v6.1 clients.
