Error description

  • v7 C++ applications returned the error 2298
    (MQRC_FUNCTION_NOT_SUPPORTED) when all of the following
    conditions are met:
    a) The application issues the Get call with MQGMO_CONVERT
    b) The application uses automatic allocation of memory for the
    message using automaticBuffer()
    c) Either the queue manager is V6 or sharing conversations
    is disabled on a V7 queue manager (SHARECNV on the channel is
    0).

Local fix

  • None, Install fix. C++ application ran fine at v6.
    The V7 C++ client can return MQRC_FUNCTION_NOT_SUPPORTED. This
    happenswhen sharing conversations is not enabled and a message
    is got with MQGMO_CONVERT using a message buffer that is
    supplied automatically.
    Sharing conversations is not enabled when communicating with a
    pre V7 queue managers or when SHARECNV on the CLNTCONN or
    SVRCONN channel is set to 0.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    Users of the v7 C++ client applications when MQGMO_CONVERT and
    automaticBuffer() are used together with sharing of
    conversations disabled.

    Platforms affected:
    All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
    The new code introduced for v7 makes an incorrect validation
    check when sharing conversations are disabled and hence
    reported the MQRC_FUNCTION_NOT_SUPPORTED error.

Problem conclusion

  • The incorrect check during an MQGET call was modified so that
    the error does not occur.
