Error description

  • When using the WebSphere MQ v7 classes for Java to put messages
to a z/OS queue manager and using the
MQMessage.writeBytes(String) method, the CCSID of the messages
in the client is 0, causing the CCSID to be set at the queue
    manager end to 500.

Local fix

  • In the client app set the MQMessage.characterSet value prior to
the PUT instead of allowing it to default to 0.
    For example: myMsg.characterSet = MQEnvironment.CCSID
would set the MQMessage.characterSet to the platform default
In this case Windows CCSID 819

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects users putting messages remotely to a z/OS
queue manager, but could also affect any system in which the
queue manager has a different codepage to the client and where
the message contains characters that are not part of the
    invariant ASCII codeset.

    Platforms affected:
All Distributed (iSeries, all Unix and Windows) +Java
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The algorithm in the MQMessage.writeBytes(String) method was
changed between V6 and V7. In V6, the CCSID would default to
819, but this did not occur in the GA V7 code.

Problem conclusion

  • The MQMessage.writeBytes(String) method was changed to
incorporate the same default behaviour as the V6 client. This
means that the default CCSID of the MQMessage class will be set
    to 819 in all cases.
