Error description

  • An MSCS queue manager resource fails to start on a secondary
node after a failover is initiated. An FDC is produced on the
secondary node with the following error message:
AMQ6119: An internal WebSphere MQ error has occurred (Failed to
    enumerate 'SOFTWARE\IBM\MQSeries\CurrentVersion\Configuration\Qu
    eueManager')

    PROBLEM SUMMARY:

The problem was caused by a change in the MSCS GUI procedure for
creating IBM MQSeries MSCS resources. Previously, the cluster
administrator provided a wizard during resource creation which
mandated that a resource name was provided at the same time as a
queue manager name. However, the Failover Cluster Management
utility on Windows Server 2008 creates a new IBM MQSeries MSCS
resource with a default name and then allows the user to modify
    its properties after creation.

As a result, the Failover Cluster Management utility allows for
a change in name to occur between the creation of the resource
and the setting of certain properties, specifically the
registry checkpoints required for queue manager operations.
However, MQ was not altering the stored name of the resource
upon a change in the GUI. Then, when it was attempting to set
up the registry checkpoints, this was being done against the
stored resource name which was distinct from that which MSCS
    knew about.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere MQ was modified to ensure that the stored resource
name was updated whenever a user changes the resource name
    using the MSCS GUI.
