IC58797: UNABLE TO CONNECT TO QMGR USING WINDOWS MQ V7 CLIENT WITH SSL BECAUSE 7.0.0.0 MQC7 OR CLIENT CD DOES NOT INSTALL GSKIT

APAR status

Error description

  • The Windows client CD or MQC7 image does not install GSKit,
    even through the GSKit package appears to be included with the
    code.
    

Local fix

  • Create local file in Windows\MSI named GSKIT_~1.cab, then
    install.
    

Problem summary

    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
    The MQ Client images for the Microsoft Windows platform fail to
    install the GSKit package and hence any attempt to use SSL will
    subsequently fail. The client install code attempts to confirm
    that the GSKit package is available by checking for the file
    GSKIT_~1.cab, however at v7 the file included with code is
    GSKit.cab.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The MQ client for Windows install images have been updated to
    correctly install GSKit. Any installation image from 7.0.0.1
    onward will include this change.
    
    As a workaround, in the Windows\MSI folder of the install image
    there should be a GSKit.cab file present already.  To prompt
    the installer to install GSKit an additional file called
    GSKit_~1.cab needs to be available here. Create an empty file
    called GSKit_~1.cab in the Windows\MSI location and restart the
    installer.  GSKit should be mentioned in the end summary panel,
    on completion of the install GSKit should be installed
    successfully, and secure connections should now be possible.
