Error description
If the server component is not selected for installation, eg. for a Client or Explorer only installation, the install fails when the file "haregtyp.exe" cannot be located. Error AMQ4739 is reported and the install ends without rollback.
Local fix
none - Install server and Explorer, then uninstall server.
Problem summary
The problem occurs because of a missing dependency declaration in the "IBM WebSphere MQ.msi" install package. The dependency can be added locally using the Orca utility available from Microsoft: Using Orca open the MQ MSI file "IBM WebSphere MQ.msi" goto the "InstallExecuteSequence" table, find the entry "iwiRegisterMSCSResouces" and edit the value "AMQREMOVE <>1" to read "AMQREMOVE <> 1 and &Server = 3", then save the MSI and re-run the install. An interim fix, providing the msi file corrected in this way is available from IBM Support.
Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
The problem will be fixed in the next release of WebSphere MQ that provides a new installation package. The fix cannot be provided in a Fix Pack as the problem exists in the original installation package.
