Error description
When using TSM Server or StorageAgent 5.2.x and an Emulex HBA, TSM may not be able to detect the WWN/serial number of a 3592 tape drives. When TSM tries to utilize the path to the drive, it will fail and vary the path offline with the following errors: . ANR8873E (Session: 9999, Origin: TSM_STA) The path from source TSM_STA to destination TAPEX mt1.0.0.7)is taken offline. (SESSION: 9999) ANR8779E (Session: 9999, Origin: TSM_STA) Unable to open drive mt1.0.0.7, error number=66156. (SESSION: 9999) ANR8963E (Session: 9999, Origin: TSM_STA) Unable to find path to match the serial number defined for drive TAPEX in library LIBRARYZ . (SESSION: 9999) . A Server/StorageAgent trace with trace classes: ADDMSG PVR MMS NA shows the following: [psntpop.c][2705]: (IBMTapeXinquiry) Issuing IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH to get tape drive's vendor id with handle 66156 in Windows. [psntpop.c][2803]: (IBMTapeXinquiry) Issuing IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH to get tape drive's serial with handle 66156 in Windows. [psntpop.c][2902]: (IBMTapeXinquiry) Issuing IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH to get drive's WWN with handle 66156 in Windows. [mmsdrive.c][7914]: (MmsCheckTapeId) Xinquiry success for drive TAPE5 opened with path mt4.0.0.7 dd_serial [] vendor [] wwn [] [pspvr.c][2330]: device with handle 66156 is closed . Due to changes in the Inquiry page 0x83 on the 3592 tape drives, the World Wide Name (WWN) bytes in Inquiry page are shifted. Due this shifted bytes, TSM compares the drive serial/wwn received from the HBA to what is coded in the TSM Database, there is no match found and the drive path is taken offline and no longer available for use. . This condition only exists for TSM Server/StorageAgents running at 5.2.x connecting via Emulex HBAs. The issue has been fixed at version 5.3.4 and higher. .
