Error description

  • Linux 2.4 series kernel platforms don't allow a ClearCase NCA
    export <view-tag/vob-tag> to be
exported if the sob-tag has already been exported with another
    view.
Ex. Of this entries in /etc/exports.mvfs
    /view/nca_view1/var/tmp/NCAVOB1 -o dubvar(rw)
    /view/nca_view2/var/tmp/NCAVOB2 -o dubvar(rw)
    /view/nca_view3/var/tmp/NCAVOB3 -o dubvar(rw)
    /view/nca_view1/var/tmp/NCAVOB3 -o dubvar(rw)
    /view/nca_view1/var/tmp/NCAVOB2 -o dubvar(rw)
    /view/nca_view3/var/tmp/NCAVOB1 -o dubvar(rw)
only the first three are exported and the last three are not.

    The error is:
    export_mvfs: Exporting all
    YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN: Domain not bound

This is due to a limitation in how the NFS kernel exports
work in the Linux 2.4 series kernels.
This cannot be fixed in ClearCase.
However, the Linux 2.6 series kernels will work with multiple
    views
    exporting the same VOB.
Support is currently available for SLES9 which has a
    2.6.5-based kernel.
SLES9 SP1 includes fixed support for the "fsid=" flag.

Local fix

  • Upgrade to a 2.6.5 kernel or
only put one /view/vob entry per vob in the
    exports file.

Problem summary

  • ClearCase running on the Linux 2.4 kernel only allows export of
    one view per VOB.

Problem conclusion

  • This bug cannot be fixed in ClearCase; it is a limitation, in
the Linux 2.4 kernel, on how NFS exports work.

Temporary fix
