Error description

  • ABSTRACT:
Measure Between shows wrong result of Minimum distance and
    Angle
    SCENARIO:
    0) Start CATIA.
    1) Open the CATPart. W/B GSD.
    2) Select "Measure Between" icon. "Measure Between" window is
    displayed.
    3) Select "Translate Reference Plane -0.001mm" and "Curve1"
    as selection 1 and 2.
    RESULT:
The minimum distance and Angle values are displayed. The
value of Minimum distance is 0.001mm. The value of Angle is
    45.477deg.
    EXPECTED RESULT:
The result of minimum distance should be 0mm.
The result of Angle should be 0deg.

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED ON CATIA VERSION V5R21 GA level.
NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ALSO BE FIXED ON V5R20 SP4.
    Additional Closure Information:
    Incident Diagnosis:
Measure Between shows wrong result of Minimum distance and
    Angle
    Technical explanation of the correction:
Measure calls the exact operator for getting the minimum
distance and the exact distance value returned by Exact
opeartor is actually 0.00099999999992588873 and not 0.001.
The algorithm of Exact opeartor stops computing any further
as soon as it finds a distance less than Factory Resolution
(0.001). This is because anything less than Factory
Resolution is to be treated as zero distance and there is no
point refining the result furtherand measure code was just
rounding off the value to 3 digits i.e., 0.001. But, actually
it should roundoff to 0 as it is less than the tolerance
    0.001.
Now, the condition is added to correct the distance value.
For angle, the value displayed on R20 level is correct and as
the per the angle computation specification. For details on
angle computation please refer the documentation: DMU Space
Analysis > Measure Tools > Measuring Angles
It seems that the angle 0 deg getting displayed on R18SP5
level is wrong and considering the scenario the angle cannot
be 0 deg. The current result is good to observe.
