Error description

  • SCENARIO:
The CATPart contains two surfaces. The angle between two
    surface is 0.2 degree.
Create Join Of two surfaces with following option.
    Activate Check tangency option
Activate Angular Threshold option and put 0.3 deg as value
    and Click OK.
    OBSERVATION
Join is created without error. Angular threshold value is
particularly useful to avoid joining overlapping elements and
work on the top of check tangency option. Therefore there is
no meaning that Angular threshold value can be lower than 0.5
    deg
    .
    EXPECTED RESULT:
Angular Threshold option should not work for less than 0.5
degree value and Error message should be displayed. Or it
should not be possible to set Angular Threshold below 0.5 deg

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN CATIA
    Additional Closure Information:
    .
    INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
While using Join command, Angular Threshold option works for
less than 0.5 degree value even though Check Tangency option
    works till 0.5 degrees.
    .
    RESTRICTION EXPLANATION:
Check Tangency and Angular threshold options are completely
    different and independent.
Check tangency option allows checking tangency continuity
between internal edges (of a surface) as well as merged edges
(adjacent edges of neighborhood surface) and if angle between
edges is more than 0.5 degrees, an error is thrown.
Angular threshold option allows to check that max angle
between all the adjacent faces of merged cells (faces) is not
greater than the specified value. This check works on merged
cells only and does not work on internal edges.
It is not appropriate to lock/restrict minimum value of
Angular threshold value to 0.5 degrees because in some other
cases (especially in Class A surface design) Join command is
used with less than 0.5deg Angular threshold value. It would
be seen as a regression for such cases.
