Error description

  • ANALYSIS (FEM) / Boundary simplification is not
    respected after CATPart is modified.
    .
    SCENARIO:
    .
    1. Open attached CATPart.
    2. Go to Advanced Meshing Tools workbench.
    3. Click Advanced Surface Mesher, select the
    PartBody
    4. In the Global Parameters dialog box provide
    following values:
    - Mesh Type : Set frontal triangle method
    - Element Type: Liner
    - On Mesh tab,
    -Mesh size : 10.000mm
    -Absolute sag : 0.050mm
    -Min Size : 0.100mm
    -Automatic mesh capture : 0.010mm
    -On Geometry tab,
    -Constraint Sag : 0.500mm
    -Angle between faces : 0.000deg
    -Angle between curves : 1.000deg
    -Minholes size : 10.000mm
    5. Click Boundary Simplifications icon
    6. Select Faces tab
    7. On Trap toolbar, click Select Objects by an
    Inclusive Polygon method.
    8. Error Message "Impossible to inactivate Face" is
    displayed.
Note that the central surface on the pad is selected.
    9. Select the surfaces on right and left of the
    central surface.
    10. Click Mesh The Part icon.
    11. The mesh is generated and it is on all 3
    surfaces.
    .
    12. Go to Part Design workbench; modify the Pad
    size to 25mm.
    13. Switch Back to Advanced Meshing Tools
    workbench.
    14. From contextual menu of Spec tree select
    update all meshes command.
    RESULT:
    The mesh is updated.
However the surface mesh is present ONLY on the
central surface. The mesh on the other two
    surfaces is lost.
    .
    .
    EXPECTED RESULT:
    .
The result at step 14 should be same as the result
    at step 11.
The boundary simplification should be respected.
    .

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED ON VERSION V5R20 GA level.
    Additional Closure Information:
    INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
Boundary simplification was not respected if the geometry was
    modified.
    CORRECTION EXPLANATION:
Due to a defect the modifiations in geometry were not
correctly recognized and the resulting boundary
    simplification was incorrect.
The defect is now fixed. After the fix, when the geometry is
modified and mesh is updated the boundary simplification is
    correct.
    NOTE:
The boundary simplification should be re-defined to make use of
the fix. If the old mesh and boundary simplification is used t
he effect of fix may not be visible.
